Frequently asked questions

Can people self refer to York Mind?

In January 2011 we reviewed the procedures we use for new people joining our projects and introduced a system of self-referral. In order to begin the application process, interested clients should fill in the application form that is avaiable on our website and send it in to us by post or email. Upon receipt of the application form we will get in touch to arrange an intitial meeting.

How do I refer somebody to York Mind?

Referrs can fill in the standard self-referral form that is available on our website. Following receipt of the application, an assessment will be carried out and an initial interview arranged so that prospective service users can get a better understanding of what we do. If there is a waiting list for the chosen activity we usually encourage people to attend our social and leisure clubs in the meantime.

Why do you only work with people of 'working age'?

With limited resources we have to focus our work where we can have the greatest impact and at present are unable to address the particular needs of children, adolescents or older people.

Do I have to pay anything to attend?

All day to day activities at York Mind are free to service users. We are able to do this due to the support of our funders and ongoing fundraising by the trustees and staff.

Occasionally, we may have trips to the cinema or theatre that require service users to contribute towards the cost.

Will York Mind pay my travel expenses to attend?

York Mind does not pay for travel expenses. If attendance at York Mind is part of a care or recovery plan then help towards travel expenses may be available via the recovery or social services.

How long can I stay at York Mind for?

This is always dependent upon individual need. Some people stay with us for a few weeks, other for many years. We work to encourage all service users to develop and progress and expect that in time, everybody who joins Our Celebration will move on into other activities.

Can I bring my friends / family in to see what York Mind does?

We are always happy to welcome visitors to York Mind and are happy to show them around and keep them up to date with our activities.

How do I find your building?

We are based on Highcliffe Court in Clifton Green which is directly opposite the Old Grey Mare pub. See the Find Us page for a map.

Is parking available?

There is limited parking on Highcliffe Court. Additional parking is usually available on Abbey Street, the next road along heading out of town.
