Fundraising with York MindWhy do you need to fundraise? As a charity providing services for local people recovering from mental ill-health, we do recieve some funding from "statutory" bodies such as City of York Council and the NHS, but we still need to raise a considerable amount of money from other sources to keep the charity viable. For example, in the year ended 31st March 2010, almost £30,000 was generated from fundraising and without this vital income we would have to drastically cut the services we provide. What do we do? Ian, our part-time Fundraising Officer spends a significant amount of time making applications to Charitable Trusts and Foundations to ask for grants and donations. However, as the economy enters some very uncertain times, the funding from these organisations is likely to be reduced. We have therefore been much more active in organising fundraising events in recent months, and you will often see volunteers collecting in the City Centre or at local supermarkets for example, as well as participating in events like the annual Dragon Boat Challenge and the York 10k "run for all" raising money for Our Celebration. We have an active group of volunteers who procure celebrity memorabilia to auction at regular intervals on the "EBay" website, while others organise activities from coffee mornings to Jazz concerts and everything in between! We are also very grateful to the Lord Mayor of York, The Rt Hon Cllr Mrs Susan Galloway, who chose Our Celebration as one of her chosen charities to support in her year of office, and the incomng Lord Mayor, David Horton, who is supportingYork and District Mind. There are a number of Lord Mayor's fundraising events going on over the next few months, and of course Our Celebration/York Mind staff and volunteers are all helping to organise these. A list of all forthcoming events can be found here, and also at our Facebook page. Lastly, but very definitely not least, we recieve a number of donations from very kind and generous individuals, companies and local groups throughout the year. Donations are made in a number of different ways; by cash in person, by cheque, regular standing order or online via our JustGiving webpage. We value every single penny, and we know that you will expect us to use your gifts wisely and productively. Please remember if you are planning to make a donation that we can often claim another 28% from HMRC in "Giftaid" based on tax paid by yourself, so please get in touch if you want to take advantage of this. What difference will my support make ? York Mind prides itself on being able to clearly demonstrate the difference it makes to the lives of the people who use its service. Staying well, making new friends, keeping occupied, learning new skills, finding new hobbies and interests and moving into paid work are all things that can make an enormous difference to the lives of people recovering from mental ill-health. By donating to the charity you are helping us to help other people who might otherwise have nobody else to turn to. What do you spend the money on? £5 will pay the travel expenses for one of our volunteers for a week. Volunteers help us to assist many more people than we would if relying on paid staff alone £10 will pay for one client to attend our drama group each week £15 will pay for one hour of one to one mentoring and coaching £35 will pay for somebody to attend one of our training projects for a week £500 will pay for somebody to attend our leisure club for a whole year £1000 will pay for somebody to attend one of our workshops for a whole year £1800 will pay for somebody to attend a supported training course for a whole year How can I help? If you would like to help our fundraising efforts in any way - whether it is by making a donation, attending an event or volunteering to help with our efforts please visit our "Get involved" page.
