Success stories: Jack's story

Jack came on to Blueprint to study on the Catering and Hospitality course. He had become unwell in his late teens and after spending time in supported accommodation needed to learn some basic skills to help with living independently.

The course started off with teaching Jack the basics about food, nutrition and hygiene. Over time, Jack was able to work with the other students plan and prepare meals, to understand how food can affect health and to work as part of a team.

Jack found that he really enjoyed catering and after 12 months on the Blueprint course wanted to continue in a similar environment.

The Blueprint mentor helped Jack find a voluntary placement in the community café. He now works there two afternoons each week and is planning to start looking for paid work over the next few months.
