Ways into Work - Return to Work Support

For those of our clients who have struggled to find employment or are returning to their jobs after a long break, we recognise that the prospect of starting work again can be daunting.

Mind@Our Celebration offers specialised advice and support for clients who wish to get back into work.

Work Focused mentoring supports working age adults in their recovery to identify employment, voluntary work and further training options. Mentoring sessions involve working with approximately 20 clients per year who are ready for work and helps them prepare CVs, cover letters, complete job application forms and practice interview skills. The key to helping clients in their recovery is to find opportunities that best match their skills and personal goals and are both achievable and sustainable.

A vital part of the work focused mentoring is to support clients on a one to one basis to build their confidence and overcome barriers to employment or mainstream education. Clients have their own dedicated employment specialist who can focus on the issues each individual encounters and provide them with tailored employment advice.

  • One-to-one, work-targeted support
  • Access to an employment specialist
  • Mentoring available to both those currently unemployed and clients already in work but need extra support

We also encourage our clients to take control and create their own employment links. For the client, the process of finding and securing employment themselves can be an empowering experience. We aim to provide just the right amount of guidance and practical advice so that clients can develop the skills to support themselves in the future.

Success Stories: Tanya and Bob*

Finding a job is often about exploring all avenues, rather than just through the job centre or local advertisements. Since 50% of jobs aren't advertised, it makes sense to ask around family and friends as you may find a job when you least expect it! This was the experience of two of our clients, Tanya and Bob who have recently been supported into employment and we have several others who have sought work successfully for themselves too.

Starting with Bob, he decided he wanted to get back into back into work having been on benefits due to his mental ill-health. With our support, he went about contacting potential employers himself and has managed to secure some casual full time work taking him into next year with Nestle. So far, he's really enjoyed the work and believes he can progress through the company; his line manager has already spotted his potential and has suggested he might be considered for a full time contract when positions become available in the New Year. The experience of seeking and securing a job he enjoys has given Bob so much confidence and, now he's earning, he's even thinking of buying a car, something that he couldn't consider whilst out of work!

Tanya found her job through word-of-mouth, working as a part time hotel receptionist. For the moment, she'll be working five hours per week but hopes to take on more hours once she's settled and feeling more confident. Alongside that, she has also secured a volunteering placement with a local charity. Tanya had worried about not being able to find work but her experience has led her to believe that there are jobs out there if you want to do something. She is excited to be back in employment and relieved to discover that with the right kind of support, that mental ill-health isn't such a barrier after all.

We wish both Bob and Tanya all the best for the future!
