Care when it counts... Supporting recovery from mental ill health

In the UK someone takes their own life every 90 minutes

Self Help Groups

Mind@Our Celebration runs a variety of self help and activity groups. These groups provide a supportive environment for people experiencing mental distress, which reduces isolation, provides hope and empowers recovery.

The self help groups bring together people who endure mental distress with others who have similar issues and diagnoses. There is the opportunity to discuss these issues, but more importantly there is a focus on offering coping strategies that may give a person hope for the future.

Self help is an approach that promotes recovery by encouraging people to take control of their lives. The realisation that people have the power themselves to significantly improve their own mental health, can be a liberating experience.

The self help groups often include guest speakers on various topics, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (talking treatment) and exercise and mood.

Within the self help groups we do not provide medical advice or therapy. We are not a crisis service. We encourage people to build upon their own resources and skills. Our activity groups help clients to develop their skills, and improve their self esteem and confidence. Clients may progress to further learning opportunities, or voluntary or paid work.

Sufferers, carers, family and friends are very welcome at these groups. Refreshments are provided.
