What it does

The Young People's Mentoring project supports approximately 30 young people per year in their recovery. The springboard for this project is the new accredited OCR course in Employability Skills called ‘Ready Steady Life' which engages 8 young people over 12 weeks. The aim of this course is help young people to build their confidence in finding employment or to apply for mainstream education courses. Another aspect of the project is to develop links with local employers and education providers and provide opportunities for young people to develop new skills.

Digital Media Training Workshops

We are currently working alongside York St John University TV and Film Foundation Degree students to develop ongoing digital media training workshops for our young clients. The importance of these workshops will enable the young people to increase their self esteem and gain digital media skills in line with their peers at the University.

Our Celebration client appointed Prince's Trust Young Ambassador

One of the mentoring project's participants has been chosen to be a representative for the Prince's Trust. Jodie*, who recently completed the 'Ready Steady Life' course, was appointed as a one of their Young Ambassadors in recognition of her achievements.

Jodie had struggled with bipolar disorder before coming to Our Celebration. She wanted to learn new skills and access further education but had felt prevented by her condition. After receiving support from Our Celebration, she learnt to manage her condition and work towards gaining a certificate that would allow her to apply to the local college. A year after, and with an OCR qualification under her belt, she is now looking to do a course in Social Care and Guidance at York College.

If that isn't enough, Comic Relief are also interested in Jodie's story. They too want to highlight the progress she has made in regaining control of her life and and are planning to include a feature about her on their website.

Jodie has shown that, with a mixture of hard work, determination and the right support, she can achieve whatever she wants and not feel constrained by mental illness.
